Crispy Golden Mahamri Mandazi Recipe

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 teaspoon instant dry yeast
  • 4 cups Maisha all-purpose flour
  • 12 cup Sugar
  • 14 teaspoon spice (cardamom, cinnamon, allspice, ginger)
  • 2 tablespoon butter, margarine, or vegetable oil
  • 14 cup warm milk (optional)
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Oil for deep frying


Mix the flour, sugar, salt, spice and yeast in a bowl. In another bowl mix oil, water, egg and milk. Pour the liquid mixture into the flour mixture. Knead for 10 minutes. Let it sit for 30 minutes. Cut into shape and fry.

Enjoy with a cup of tea or your favourite beverage.
